Connect and collect: a neat summary of the purpose of subject groups

“Connect and collect” grabbed me as a memorable phrase to summarise the purpose of our subject groups in the Academy in BT. Subject groups

  • Connect people
  • Collect content

And in fact these aren’t separate activities. It is in the very act of connecting people around a subject that content is collected – through their interactions.

Here’s how I visualise it. The Academy is a tree trunk with some major branches (the professions) and lots of smaller branches (the subject groups). People gather round the branches to eat the fruit (shared knowledge and learning resources) and cause more fruit to grow. The subject groups connect people and collect content.

The idea of connect and collect was inspired by this blog post from Nick Milton at Knoco. If anyone fancies making a better job of the image, I’ll be grateful.
